I was wondering this myself.

that last pic on the page, the two kids digging a hole throught he wall. that is on the West Bank Barrier wall. come on! thats cool!
Although, I have heard that in urban areas, if the government commissions "art work" for open public walls, there are fewer acts of grafitti vandalism. The idea is that a blank wall invites vadalism and a wall that is already painted or that has a mural on it is less prone to being defaced
and I would not put too much into what people pay for art.
That is a ridiculous market and people will pay crazy amounts of money for something that they are told is good.

in response to Banksy's work going for 4 times what he was asking at a showign (of which, to remain annonomous, he was not there) the day after the peices began to sell, there was a giant Banksy tag on the outside of the building that plainly said "Why are you morons paying that much for this crap?" or soemthing to that effect.
but again, this is not scribbling yr name on a wall, this stuff is street art. art that is done in a way that few do it.
no one thinks art is BS more than me, but i like this stuff cause it is original, intelligent and done without expecting money for it. it is there just to evoke feelings and thoughts from people. he holds shows, but he mostly just goes around to places and puts up work that will make people think.
taking a crap in the middle of a tennis court also makes people think, but I would not consider that art.
